HO CHI MINH, SIEM REAP AND BANGKOK

Vibrating with energy, innovation and traffic – lots of traffic – Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, is the economic heart of Vietnam and the main hub of the southern region. A freewheeling, cosmopolitan metropolis, HCMC’s dynamic cityscape draws together old and new Vietnam in the most compact of spaces, representing the city’s past as well as its future.
Siem Reap forms a part of the northern hemisphere of Combodia and is the main entry point for the Angkor Archaeological Park. The name Siem Reap translates to the defeat of Siam, marking the conflictual past reign of the Khmer empire in the city. Siem Reap has now become an upcoming commercial and industrial location in Cambodia, with its marvelous blend of urban and old-world cultural practices. Tourist spots such as Angkor Silk Farm, Apopo Visitor Center, and Cambodian Cultural Village provide a sneak peek into the cultural and religious fervor of Siem Reap.
Bangkok, Thailand’s capital, is a large city known for ornate shrines and vibrant street life. The boat-filled Chao Phraya River feeds its network of canals, flowing past the Rattanakosin royal district, home to opulent Grand Palace and its sacred Wat Phra Kaew Temple. Nearby is Wat Pho Temple with an enormous reclining Buddha and, on the opposite shore, Wat Arun Temple with its steep steps and Khmer-style spire.

The tunnels also served as communication routes, storage facilities for food and weapon caches as well as hospitals and living quarters for guerrilla fighters throughout the Vietnam War. A visit to the underground villages provides a great understanding of the hardship of life in the tunnels and the Vietnamese resilience during combat. In the afternoon, you will have a city tour including the Reunification Hall, formerly known as the Presidential Palace. It was towards this modern building that Communist tanks rolled on the morning of April 30, 1975, as Saigon fell. This fascinating building is filled with history still fresh in the minds of many.
