| DAY 01: Fly to Lukla [2,827m], and trek to Phakding [2,610m] | |
| In the morning after breakfast, we hop a flight to Lukla & experience landing on a steep mountain runway; introducing us to the start of our trek at the village of Lukla [2850m]. We meet up with the crew & head up to the Dudh Koshi Valley on a well known trail that's been trodden by thousands of backpackers and then stay overnight in Phakding. | |
| DAY 02: Trek to Namche Bazar [3,446m]. | |
| From Phakding, we do a double crossing of a river on high suspension bridges. Beyond Monjo is the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park which was introduced in order to protect and preserve the fragile mountain environment. Next, it's a steep hike to Namche. If the weather is clear, we get the first glimpse of Mt Everest. Namche is a central trading village in the Khumbu and has a busy Saturday market - an old time meeting place for the Hindu traders who hail from the lowlands and the Tibetan yak caravans that have crossed the glaciated Nangpa La. Overnight in a bustling little town that has lights {electricity} everywhere, something hard to come by on these rugged mountains. | |
| DAY 03: Acclimatizing in Namche | |
| Namche is a little town that lies between two ridges amidst the giant peaks of the Khumbu and has a lot of lodges, tea shops and souvenir shops. It's just the place to be for acclimatizing to the new altitude before heading off towards Tengboche. To acclimatize, you visit Khunde Hospital set-up by Sir Edmund Hillary, or take a one hour walk up to the Everest View Hotel above Namche where you get sunset views of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse and Everest. We can also expect good views from the National Park Centre and Museum just above the town. | |
| Day 04: Trek to Tengboche [3867m] | |
| From Namche, the trail veers on to the side of the valley, high above the Dudh Kosi. This is where we get our first really good views of the great peaks of the Khumbu including Mt Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam. Hiking by several villages and numerous tea shops, we descend steeply to a bridge over the river at Phunki Tenga. This village is a good stop for lunch & rest. Here we can relax before making the steep climb to Tengboche. Although the hike up the zigzag path is taxing, it presents us many beautiful sights of rhododendron bushes with beautiful birds and delightful mountain scenery. Tengboche is famous for its celebrated monastery, the largest in the Khumbu. A wonderful panorama of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam mounting in the horizon can be seen from our lodge site. | |
| Day 05: Trek to Pheriche [4252m] | |

| We carry on through our journey up the wide valley that lies below the magnificent peaks of Cholatse and Tawache towards the left. We then swerve right and take a steep climb towards the foot of the Khumbu Glacier. We go in for a breather in the tea house at Duglha which is a good spot to settle in for lunch. The trail then meanders through the boulders of the glacier's terminal moraine. As we reach the top of this Sherpa village, we come across many stone cairns, built as memorials to the many Sherpas who visited the cluster of houses at Lobuche. We bunk out at Lobuche. | |
| Day 08: Trek to Gorak Shep [5184m] | |
| To get to our next destination, which is Kala Pattar, we cling to the route along the Khumbu Glacier. The trail presents fantastic views of the surrounding mountains, especially where the path forces itself to rise to cross a tributary glacier. We halt for lunch at our camping place: Gorak Shep. Later in the afternoon, we head to the top of one of the finest viewpoints in the Everest region, Kala Pattar [5554m]. As the light begins to fade we trot at our own pace back to our camp at Gorak Shep and crash out for an early night in preparation for our trek to Everest Base Camp the following day. | |
| Day 09: Trek to Everest Base Camp [5357m] | |
| We must start very early to reach Everest Base Camp. It takes several hours as the trail winds its way through ice pinnacles and past the crevasses of the Khumbu Glacier. On the return leg, we can take a higher route to get superb view of the Khumbu icefall and the route to the South Col. We then return to either Gorak Shep or Lobuche. | |
| Day 10: Trek to Pangboche [3985m] | |
| Today we begin to trek mostly downhill. As we retrace our steps to Duglha and descend to Pheriche, we arrive at The Himalayan Rescue Association, a trekker's aid post and worth a visit. After lunch & a breather, we cross the Khumbu Khola on a wooden suspension bridge and follow the Imja Khola to the village of Pangboche. | |
| Day 11: Trek to Namche [3450m] | |
| We carry on staying close to the river and, after crossing it, climb back up through birch and rhododendron forest to Tengboche. Kwangde, Tawache, Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Kantega and Thamserku are just a few of the Himalayan giants that we get to see on the way. From Tengboche we descend to the bridge over the Dudh Kosi. At Phunki Tenga, we see the water driven prayer wheels, which is interesting to watch before making our way back to Namche. | |
| Day 12: Trek to Lukla [2800m] | |
| On the last lap of our trekking we follow the Dudh Kosi down to Lukla. This final or last evening of us being together calls for a celebration. We throw a party with our Sherpa guides and porters. We sample some chang (local beer) and do a jig to some Sherpa dance steps. This brings an end to a memorable trip on a tipsy note for all the good times we shared together on the trail. Overnight at your lodge; we encourage our guests to get the maximum from their holidays by interacting with local communities & learning of their lifestyles while hiking through some of the most rugged & remote territory on earth.
